Over the past few years there has been a huge surge in personalised number plate ownership. Motorists have discovered that unique car registrations displayed on their beloved motors are a great finishing touch. It is great news for the government that number plate sales are going up as it equates to millions of pounds worth of extra revenue for the Treasury every year.

Personalised number plates or car registrations, whichever you like to call them, are a small additional cost when compared to the price of a shiny new car or motorbike. Lots of motorists transfer cherished number plates onto their cars to help make them stand out from the crowd or to make a statement. They are often used as a medium for sending out a personal message to the rest of the general public.

The police have started to take the issue of correctly displaying your number plates very seriously. This is partly due to increased use of automatic number plate reading (ANPR) cameras. It is a good idea to spend some time studying the correct display and representation of number plates. If your number plates do not conform to the law you may be fined and receive penalty points on your licence.

Figuring out precisely what you want to display on your own number plate can be a difficult task. You are limited in your choice of letters and numbers and you are also restricted exactly how those characters should be displayed. You must also take into consideration the probability that somebody else may have already had the same idea as you and bought the combination that you wanted.

So what is it that you want your personalised registration to say? Is it your name or the make of your car? Maybe you want to broadcast your profession or hobby. Do you want to show your passion for supporting a certain football or rugby team?

If you are stuck for ideas you could consult one of the many private number plate dealers for some specialist industry help. Obviously keep in mind that a cherished numbers dealer is likely to encourage you in the direction of one of their own stock registrations. You could get a few tips and then in your own time consider all of the options presented to you.

Don't hesitate in securing your personalised registration when you have decided which combination you are going for. Number plates are unique; there is only one of each kind. It would be very disappointing to have spent so much time deciding exactly which registration you wanted, only to find that it had been bought by somebody else!

Every year James helps hundreds of UK car owners select their very own unique personalised number plates. James is an established number plates dealer offering car registrations for sale and is based in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.
